Fasciated daisy — Fasciated stems are produced due to abnormal activity in the growing tip of the plant. Often an abnormal number of flowers are produced on affected stems. Normal branches may arise from fasciated stems. Fasciation is unpredictable and is usually limited to a single stem. It seldom recurs the following year.

My name is Edward Neuman (AKA - EMCN), I’m 28 and from London. I mainly shoot city/urban photography with a healthy does of architecture. I’m also into black white as a style in post processing. Finally, I also use my photos to make abstract composite images and motifs.

Gear wise I shoot with a Nikon D5100 used primarily with a 35mm lens.

I am an evolving amateur photographer with a little over 2 years of experience in this art. I have always had a creative bent to my life, drawing my own super heroes at a young age and comic strips and later working as a graphic designer for 10 years. I now work in my second career as a registered nurse but still have a strong desire to create and express myself visually. Photography is proving to be a great avenue to do that.

My style and interests are still growing and developing. They are difficult for me to categorize. I find experimenting with different techniques, subjects and genre most interesting. I enjoy allowing myself the freedom to explore. Discovering myself as a person, not just a creative person, is most important to me. Through my camera, I seek to capture and express my view of the world around me. Hopefully this will allow others the chance to see things a little bit differently then they had. Photography gives me the opportunity to express my inner being, my individuality thus giving others a peek into my soul.

My name is Chris, I’m a 27-year-old photographer from Germany. I like playing around with heavy black and white constrasts.

This is a picture I took some days ago in the streets of Perpignan, France, where I study at the moment. It was about three weeks after christmas. Most of the little stores still have christmas decoration and so do the streets. With the five lamps above it and the surrounding shops this square looks kind of a stage for the guy in the middle. That’s what I thought while taking the picture.

I’m a designer who shoots for my sanity. I don’t do assignment work. I am not looking to turn my shooting into a business. I don’t sell prints. I do this for fun and occasionally sell my shots to myself for my design work. Everything on my blog is original work.

I took this photo with a Canon EOS 600D, my very first DSLR.

To be honest, I literally shoot ANYTHING. But I much prefer shooting candid, those “capture moments” shots. I also shooting vintage-looking subjects and enhancing the effect in post-process. I’ve always found photography great and been taking photos for a about 3 years now but it wasn’t until recent that I started to learn as much as I could!

I own a few DSLRS including a 5D Mark II & 1D Mark II N. I’m working my way to learning film as well.

Someday I hope to try freelancing!

ok, i’m hoping that your delicate sensibilities are not frayed by today’s random architectural update.

see, l.a has strip clubs.
i mean, most cities have strip clubs.
but l.a, or so it seems, is especially known for it’s strip clubs.
so, regardless of whether people are pro strip club or anti strip club, i’ll state the obvious: they exist and they hold a storied and prominent place in l.a’s urban landscape.
i don’t want to get too grad-student-y or semiotics-y in my discussion of strip clubs, but one of the thing that fascinates me, especially about the outside of strip clubs, is that with very little information they present all sorts of random and illicit narrative possibilities to anyone who happens to be walking or driving by.
by way of example: when was the last time someone drove by a dry cleaners or a sushi restaurant and wondered: ‘wow, i wonder what’s going on in there RIGHT NOW?’
strip clubs are a trigger. for some people they trigger moral outrage, for some people they trigger proustian memories of their pre-sobriety idiocy (ahem), for some people they trigger loneliness, for some people they trigger lust, for some people they trigger fears of neighborhood property devaluation, etc.
but they’re a powerful and significant trigger (or, if we were at brown in 1984, signifier).
which is why i’m including this particular strip club facade.

see, it’s so minimal.
a white front, no windows, and a generic helvetica sign.
but yet it still triggers a reaction when you look at it.
i mean, imagine if it said ‘sol’s office furniture. come on in for bargains.’?
would it trigger any sort of reaction above the banal ‘huh, i guess they sell office furniture.’?
so, personally i’m fascinated by the meaning we attach to such a generic and neutral facade.
granted, most of l.a’s strip clubs don’t present themselves in such a reductionist and neutral way.
but that’s why i took pictures of this one, as it’s part of l.a’s landscape and it’s banal and common but it still illicits (word play intended because i’m dweeb) a strong reaction from anyone walking or driving by.
